Jeju Island, Singapore to strengthen agricultural and livestock product exports and education exchanges

During the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) international meeting held in Jeju, Republic of Korea, from 15-16 May 2025, Jeju Governor Oh Young-hun met with the Singapore Ambassador for the past 6 years to South Korea, Eric Teo, to look back on areas of achievements of cooperation between the two regions and explore ways to collaborate in the future.

Ambassador Teo, who was appointed as an Honorary Citizen of Jeju, had contributed to raising Jeju’s international status, including the opening of a direct flight route between Jeju and Singapore, the opening of the ASEAN Hall, and the opening of the Jeju Singapore Office. The export of Jeju beef and black pork to Singapore was discussed, and cooperation in the field of education was also explored. Ambassador Teo suggested that “if we provide special educational programs in addition to tourism when Singaporean students visit Jeju, more students will visit.” Governor Oh added that “the various innovative projects currently underway in Jeju, such as private space industry, green hydrogen production, and offshore wind power, can serve as learning opportunities for students”.

Lastly, Governor Oh Young-hoon asked Ambassador Teo, who is about to leave office, to continue to show interest and support for the development of Jeju. Ambassador Teo said, “The potential for cooperation between Jeju and Singapore is limitless, and we have been working to enhance cooperation in various fields,” adding, “I will do my best to develop the cooperative relationship between Jeju and Singapore no matter where I am.”
