This July, Jeju Island transformed into a vibrant stage for global dance as the 3rd Jeju International Dance Festival took place between July 16 to 26. Spanning a variety of venues including Binin Performance Hall, Jaguri Cultural Arts Performance Hall, Jeju Art Centre, and Pyoseon Beach, the festival featured a rich, immersive experience for both performers and audience alike.
This year, the festival welcomed 90 dancers from 9 countries: Burkina Faso, Japan, Korea (including Jeju), Laos, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, and the United States. Over the course of this 11-day program, participants and visitors were treated to six performances, two workshops, one forum, and one screening, reflecting the festival’s continued growth in diversity and artistic scope.
The organizing committee remains dedicated to expanding the festival’s reach in the years ahead – with a focus on nurturing local youth interested in dance, fostering new creative works rooted in Jeju’s distinct culture and landscape, and building stronger international collaborations.
Held concurrently was the Asia Pacific Dance Competition, running from July 23 to 27. This dynamic regional event invited dancers from across the Asia-Pacific to showcase their talent and pursue creative growth in a competitive yet collaborative setting. With categories such as contemporary dance, ballet, and open dance, the competition was open to a wide range of styles and age groups. Winners received awards and certificates, and their results would be published on the official website after the event.
Whether you’re a dancer, artist, or simply a lover of the performing arts, Jeju’s vibrant dance celebrations offer a unique opportunity to be inspired, connect across cultures, and experience the universal language of movement.
