Jeju and AWS Korea Deepen Strategic Collaboration on AI and Digital Transformation

On July 22, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province held a strategic meeting with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea at their headquarters in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The session focused on advancing strategic cooperation to support the practical implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation policies across Jeju, and ensuring these policies materialize in real industrial settings.

This initiative follows Jeju’s declaration of AI and digital transformation as core provincial governance priorities. The province aims to bridge policy and practice by actively leveraging the technological leadership of global cloud providers like AWS.

During the meeting, Jeju and AWS Korea thoroughly reviewed collaborative opportunities in four key domains:

  • Aerospace: Utilizing AI and cloud infrastructure to support aerospace innovation and satellite data utilization

  • Smart Cities: Developing smarter urban infrastructure through cloud-based digital solutions

  • Logistics: Enhancing logistics efficiency and connectivity across the island

  • Talent Development: Supporting digital talent pipelines and AI-related education initiatives

Governor Oh Young Hun emphasized that Jeju’s transformation must go beyond technology adoption, stating that it should “create real change in industries and people’s lives,” and added his hope that this collaboration would help position Jeju as a national model for digital innovation.

Both sides plan to kick-start collaboration through small-scale demonstration projects and explore global benchmarking via visits to the AWS Singapore Innovation Hub. In the longer term, they aim to promote Jeju’s digital transformation success stories on the global stage.

Jeju Island will continue to build strategic partnerships with leading global firms to maximize the impact of its AI and digital transformation agenda.
