The ‘2024 Jeju Calligraphy Culture Festival’, which brings together Jeju calligraphers, will be held at Exhibition Rooms 1, 2, and 3 of the Jeju Literary Arts Center from the 27th July to the 1st of next month.

This festival, organized by the Jeju Branch of the Korean Calligraphy Association (Chairman Oh Jang-soon), comprises of the ‘31st Jeju Island Calligraphy Contest Award-Winning Calligraphy Exhibition’ (Exhibition Room 1), ‘2024 Jeju Calligraphy Art Fair’ (Exhibition Room 2), and ‘2024 Jeju Island Calligraphy Contest Invited Calligraphers’ Exhibition’ (Exhibition Room 3).

The ‘31st Jeju Island Calligraphy Contest Award-Winning Calligraphy Exhibition’ will feature 79 winning pieces from the general division and 28 special award-winning pieces from the student division.

At the ‘‘2024 Jeju Island Calligraphy Contest Invited Calligraphers’ Exhibition, the works of 51 invited artists who have been recognized since the first competition in 1994 will be presented in various styles such as traditional calligraphy, literari painting, seal engraving, and calligraphy.

The ‘Jeju Calligraphy Art Fair’ is an exhibition featuring five outstanding invited calligraphers from the Jeju Island Calligraphy Contest. The artists Kim Ji-woong, Shin Geum-i, Lee Myung-sook, Lee Sang-soon, and Hwang Jae-oh will present their works to the public. Each artist will showcase six pieces, totaling 30 works.

In the “Our Home’s Treasures” section of Exhibition Hall 1, visitors can appreciate 18 precious calligraphy works that are typically difficult to access. Among these are three pieces by Chusa Kim Jeong-hee, owned by Kim Young-bok, an appraiser of ancient books and paintings on KBS’s “Our Home’s Treasures.”

Additionally, there will be interactive programs such as “Seal Engraving and Literati Painting Experience” and “Chinese Poetry Tour.”

Since 2008, the Jeju branch of the Korea Calligraphy Association has been hosting the Jeju Calligraphy Culture Festival, providing programs that bring together association members, contest winners, residents, and students.
