We are pleased to announce Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has received certification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) as a clean area for regional foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination.
At the 92nd WOAH Annual General Session held in Paris, France from May 25 to 29, eight countries and regions around the world were newly recognised, with Jeju Island in South Korea being included as a clean area for foot-and-mouth disease vaccination, as well as being recognised as an international quarantine safe zone. This certification is the result of Jeju’s systematic preparations and sustained quarantine efforts.
With this regional certification, it is expected to be an important opportunity to increase the international reliability and export competitiveness of Jeju livestock products.
Governor Oh Young-hun said, “This clean area certification is the result of Jeju’s robust quarantine system and the dedicated efforts of our livestock farmers being recognized worldwide.” He added, “By demonstrating the safety and excellence of Jeju livestock products on the international stage, we have further strengthened our competitiveness in global markets. We will actively pursue overseas export opportunities with high-quality livestock products worthy of Jeju’s clean reputation, while continuing to reinforce our quarantine system to ensure the sustainable growth of the livestock industry in the province.”
In commemoration of the certification, Jeju Island will host the “Jeju Foot-and-Mouth Disease-Free Area Certification Ceremony” on June 11 at the Seolmundae Women’s Cultural Center.
