At the ‘53rd National Youth Sports Festival’, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province team achieved more than expected by surpassing their goals and winning more medals than they had set for.
The Jeju Island team won 37 medals (9 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals) across 13 events at the competition held in Jeollanam-do from the 25th to the 28th May.
The Jeju Island team exceeded their original goal of 30 medals, and in particular, won a significant number of medals in judo. In fact, the judo team which clinched 5 medals last year, obtained 11 medals this round, and the Jeju Island team led the medal tally.
On the final day of the competition, the Jeju team continued to add to their medal count, finishing the event on a high note.
Kim Seung-min (Jeju Seo Middle School 3) won a bronze medal in the 15 years and under, G-type 92kg wrestling class semifinals held at the Hampyeong Culture and Sports Center on the 28th.
Lee Seo-Jeong (Suwon Elementary School 6, Miterre Swimming Pool) also won a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley for girls under 12 years old held at Mokpo Indoor Swimming Pool.
Kim Ha-eun (Daejeong Elementary School 6th grade) won the best player award after hitting 142 strokes in the women’s 12 and under team event.
