Jeju Welcomes the Future of Storytelling: 2025 Jeju AI International Film Festival Opens with Global Spotlight

Just last week, the 2025 Jeju AI International Film Festival officially opened its doors at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, at the Jeju Arts Center, marking the beginning of a unique celebration at the intersection of technology and the arts. Under the slogan “The Convergence of AI and Art: Creating the Future!”, this forward-thinking festival brought together AI experts, filmmakers, and artists from around the globe to Jeju to explore how artificial intelligence can transform creative expression.

The festival featured a dynamic lineup of programs including a Global AI Film Contest, the AI + ART Forum, educational sessions on global AI film production, AI-focused special lectures, and an engaging AI experience program — all designed to showcase the evolving synergy between AI and artistic vision.

Among the standout events is the Jeju Global AI Film Contest, which drew an impressive 1,210 submissions from 95 countries. These entries creatively interpret the theme of human emotion and imagination through the lens of AI, reflecting the global creative community’s growing interest in this emerging medium.

 

The opening ceremony welcomed an audience of approximately 800 attendees, including representatives from UNESCO, various embassies, global tech firms, and the Korea Creative Content Agency. The evening was co-hosted by broadcaster Jeong Jeong-woo and Jeju’s own AI-powered announcer, J-NA, adding a touch of futuristic flair to the proceedings. A captivating laser show and the screening of the festival’s official trailer further energized the event.

A particular highlight of the evening was the screening of ‘Evolution’, the Grand Prize-winning entry by French director Elliot Orlier. In addition to the top honor, 18 other award-winning films were showcased, featuring works by talented directors from Iran, Singapore, and beyond.

 

In his congratulatory remarks, Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon shared his vision for the future: “In an era where AI speaks in the language of art and expands the world of human imagination and empathy, I hope that this film festival will be a turning point that will lead Jeju, the island of culture, to become a hub of AI content.”

Even as the festival has ended, Jeju hopes to stands at the forefront of the global dialogue on creativity and innovation, proudly offering a platform where art and AI converge to shape the stories of tomorrow.
